Canada Post Strike

Canada Post Nationwide Shutdown: What You Need to Know

Canada Post has completely ceased operations across the country. This means no pick ups or deliveries. The impact is being felt nationwide as other carriers scramble to manage the overflow, leading to widespread shipping delays.

Why Is This Happening?

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has initiated a full national strike. Until an agreement is reached with Canada Post, the network will remain at a standstill.

  • New shipments: Canada Post is not accepting or shipping any new items.
  • Existing packages: Parcels already in their system are stuck in a first-in, first-out queue. Once operations resume, clearing the backlog will take time, so further delays are inevitable.

How Does This Affect You?

To keep orders moving, we’ve shifted to alternate carriers like Purolator and UPS. However, this comes with challenges:

  1. Increased costs: Shipping rates have doubled, forcing us to temporarily replace free shipping with flat rates.
  2. Carrier overload: Other carriers are dealing with unprecedented demand, so delays are expected despite our best efforts.

We ask for your patience during this turbulent time. Please remember, as a small vape shop in Ontario, we have no control over Canada Post's operations or the strike situation.

Our Temporary Shipping Plan

Here’s what we’re doing to manage deliveries during the strike:

  • Current carriers: We are using Purolator and UPS for shipping. Unfortunately, smaller carriers and brokers have declined to handle our volume or have quoted unreasonably high rates.
  • Coverage limitations: Unlike Canada Post, these carriers don’t service every location in Canada. If your area isn’t covered, we’ll contact you to discuss options, including a refund.
  • Estimated delivery dates: Given the surge in demand for alternate carriers, providing accurate delivery estimates is impossible. Tracking numbers remain the best way to monitor your shipment.

Flat Rate Shipping Details

To make shipping as affordable as possible, we’ve introduced a flat-rate structure based on your province. You’ll pay a fixed rate at checkout, and we’ll absorb the extra costs.

  • Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba: $13
  • BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, PEI, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador: $17
  • Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon: $26 (subject to carrier availability)

This temporary system will remain in place until Canada Post resolves its dispute with CUPW.

We’re in This Together

We understand this situation is frustrating, and we’re doing everything we can to ensure your orders arrive as quickly and affordably as possible. Once Canada Post resumes operations, we’ll return to live rates and free shipping.

Thank you for your understanding and support during this time!
